bathroom vanity updating

Ok... so I have this idea for updating my vanity... get rid of the old one with the green tile counter and put in an old antique dresser with a sink bowl on top... but I have a few questions... does anyone know a plumber and/or a contractor?  I think I might need help??

Some of my questions are.... should I use some sort of countertop? granite? stone or something? or just the wood??
